Kindergarten Opens this Fall

The Wesley School opened the Kindergarten classroom this month with six students who truly enjoy the learning in our project-based program which has been recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education with a certificate of approval as a non-public school. The Wesley School is founded on the principals of valuing the whole child, cultivating relationships and respecting the diversity of God's people. Children learn everywhere, so we have created space for learning that includes our indoor treehouse for reading and our soon to be created outdoor classroom. Ms Jamie and Ms Kassie include much time in the day for project based learning, indoor and outdoor play and meaningful experiences with nature. “Last week we observed a praying mantis, " says Ms Jamie Cowan, "which inspired questions such as “What do they eat? Can they fly?” The children researched answers to these questions and began looking for more bugs around them, especially those in the spent in nature.
