February 26, 2020 Ash Wednesday worship service will be held twice
Noon at Lower Marlboro Church
7 pm at Mt. Harmony Church. Ash Wednesday is the first day of LENT. This day was set aside as a special day of repentance.
Ash symbolizes the repentance called for along with the custom of sprinkling ashes on the heads of the faithful as priests said, “Remember thou art dust and to dust you shall return”. The ashes come from the burned palms of the previous Palm Sunday. To this day on Ash Wednesday, Christians receive a smudge of ashes on their forehead remembering their mortality and the promise of eternal life.
It is this time of year that can be a time for our own renewal and deepening of our faith. We start with a worship service, ASH WEDNESDAY, February 26, 7 pm. Our service will emphasize a dual encounter; we will confront our own mortality and confess our sins before God within the community of faith in light of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ. “Ashes” will be used as a symbol of penitence, abasement, and humility. They are a reminder of our mortality. Mark your calendar now for our Ash Wednesday Service, 7 pm, February 26, 2020 at Mt. Harmony Church.
