VIRGINIA LEE GRIERSON
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The purpose of the scholarship is to aid a Northern High School student in accomplishing his/her career goals by providing a monetary award to assist with expenses at an accredited college, university or trade school to further her/his education.
Eligibility: A student from Northern High School. This student must be planning to enroll in an accredited college, University, or trade school to further his/her education.
An application form must be submitted. (picked up from Guidance Office at school) A short essay stating why you want and need the scholarship, your immediate goals, and your plans for the future. Include letters of recommendation from two adults (other than relatives) who are qualified to assess your abilities and character. Include a transcript of class records. Return completed scholarship information to the Guidance Office at Northern High School. Scholarship amount is $1,000.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund should make checks payable to the United Methodist Women.
The Virginia Lee Grierson Scholarship originated in 1992 in Memory of Virginia Lee. She was an active member of Harmony-Lower Marlboro and her love for church and family was demonstrated in her daily life. All who knew her called her friend. Her husband, Herbert, continues to support the scholarship and her daughter, Debbie, serves as a member on the selection committee.
