VIRGINIA LEE GRIERSON SCHOLARSHIP

A big thank you goes out to our committee this year that consisted of Janice Lloyd, Betty Gowland, Ginger Nethers, Lori Idol, Mary Stuart Sierra and Debbie Springer. The committee takes on the responsibility of selecting a recipient each year from the applications submitted and through a point system, created by the committee, a selection is made.

Our recipient this year is Rachel Plumley from Owings, MD. Rachel is a graduate of Northern High School and has been accepted to Towson University in the Honors Program. Her plans are to double major in Audiology and Speech Pathology and Deaf Studies. She comes from a single parent family as her father is deceased. The household consist of three; her mother who attends college part-time and an identical twin who will also be attending college this fall. Rachel is very active in the community, church and home. She feels very lucky as a teen to have a sense of what she would like to do in her

life.

The Virginia Lee Grierson Scholarship was originated in memory of Virginia Lee a member of

Mt. Harmony-Lower Marlboro UMC and very active in the UMW. A special acknowledgement and thank you goes to Herbie Grierson, who has supported this scholarship since 1993. Debbie Grierson Spring, Virginia’s daughter continues to serve on the selection committee.

Remember, the children of today are the future of our tomorrow.
